Knight of the Broken Heart

Book 2 of

A heart isn’t stolen if it’s given away...

Amelia Driver never shies away from an opportunity, and when the Eglinton Tournament is announced, she recognizes it for the goldmine that it is. A member of one of the most powerful girl gangs in London, Amelia travels to Scotland planning to swindle unsuspecting spectators. Unfortunately for her, she picks the wrong pocket.

To appease his son’s obsession with knights, Lord Eli, Viscount Barrington, shuttles him to the medieval tournament even though he has much more important things to do—like keep his daughters out of trouble. A young and honorable widower, his life goal is to raise the twins to be upstanding women, pillars of the community. His mischievous daughters, on the other hand, want nothing of the virtuous life.

When Eli encounters Amelia with her hands not where they should be, he develops a plan for the brilliant thief to scare his hoyden daughters straight. In exchange for keeping her neck out of the hangman’s noose, Amelia must follow Eli back to his estate and teach his daughters about her life of sin and depravity. Eli even thinks she could learn a trade and find honest work. He never expects that he might be the one to learn anything, let alone look forward to Amelia’s colorful and unsavory stories.

As Amelia sinks deeper into the family life she never knew she wanted, she begins to question if a life of crime is still for her. How could an old widower and his young children be more exciting than her haunts on the streets?

When her past comes back to claim her, will Amelia decide that love is worth giving up her independence, or will she learn that good love from a good man is all the freedom she’s ever dreamed of?

Reviews

Life is not always fair or easy. She tried to do it the honest way, but failed, and a girl’s gotta do do what a girl’s gotta do to survive. Pickpocketing to pay of her debts, Amelia Driver is the best in the business, and the crowd at the Eglinton Tournament an easy target. On second thought, she should have quit while ahead. She barely got away from him while stealing his precious pocket watch, but he followed and caught her… Nine years since his wife left him and the children ; twins Kitty and Cecily, and Michael. Eight since he, Eli, Viscount Barrington, became a widower. Taking the little thief home might not be his brightest idea, but leaving her at the whims of the local constable wasn’t either. It was his atonement for last night and hers for deceiving him. And besides, she might just be the one to tame his hellions. She loves flowers, he’s a botanist. They both suffered tremendous loss in their youth, and even though their upbringing couldn’t be more different, they’re more alike then they’re willing to admit. She’s not afraid of him and he can’t seem to stay away from her. She’s beautiful, brave, clever and strong. His children love her. She’s exactly what they need. Exactly what he needs… A fiend, her nefarious past and her unpaid debts still loom over her. Will she save herself? Or could he be her knight in shining armour? 📚 Completely absorbed by this riveting tale, I read it in one sitting! The main characters and the world they live in are so beautifully crafted. Their relationship and the family dynamic is real. No silliness, no miscommunication. This story is touching, playful, tough, funny, sad and incredibly romantic. A Victorian fairytale! 📚 Enemies to lovers, forced proximity, open door, steamy, single father, pickpocket heroine, slow burn Thank you to Margaux Thorne, Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley for this eARC. Thieves, Lessons, Flowers: I must say this story has a plot and characters like no other I have ever read before. A surprise beginning brings forth a different element I would usually not find in a historical romance story. Amelia has a very shaded past and present day means of surviving which Molly her mother-like figure taught her. The unpleasant way she meets Eli is quite unscrupulous. From there they start a journey that involves the earl's family and Amelia's sordid family as well. Challenges galore await both Eli and Amelia which they meet head on to make this a very fast-moving mystery romance story that is filled with humor, cleverness, obsessive compulsiveness, passionate desire that was quite needed to keep my attention. I enjoyed reading this very intricately detailed romance story that involves family, friends good and bad. Cherie S Goodreads
